  • Assignment

COM 127 Module Eight Journal Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

In Module One, you were asked to reflect on your communication strengths, areas of opportunity, and general career goals to help direct you through the course. In this assignment, you will reflect on what you have learned from this course about what it means to be an effective communicator. You’ll also reflect on the many career opportunities available to effective communicators and the professional goals you identified and worked on throughout this program.

Prompt

Think back to your initial reflection from the Module One journal.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • After learning more about what it means to be an effective communicator, do you still agree with your initially identified communication strengths? Why or why not? Are there any strengths you would like to add?
  • After completing your course assignments and activities, do you feel like you have started to address any of your identified areas of opportunity? If so, how? If not, what will you do to try and address them in the future?
  • Based on your more in-depth career exploration in this module, identify a specific career goal and describe the steps you will take to achieve it. (For example, “My goal is to get a job as a social media specialist at an innovative organization. To reach this goal, I will . . .”.)

What to Submit

This assignment must be approximately 250 to 500 words (1 to 2 pages) and submitted in a written format.

Note: For journal assignments, you can receive a Proficient, Needs Improvement, or Not Evident score on each of your rubric criteria. There is no Exemplary score for this assignment.

After learning more about being an effective communicator, do you still agree with your initially identified communication strengths? Why or why not? Are there any strengths you would like to add?

 Reflecting on Communication Strengths

For completing COM-127 8-2 Journal: Please respond on Professional Goals Part II in 1-3, submitted journal. In this  how-to Owlisdom guide COM-127 1-3 Journal: Thus, Professional Goals Part I solution will be used again to accomplish COM-127 8-2 Journal: Professional Goals Part II:

  •  Reflect on what you initially considered to be your strengths for communication. In what ways do you find these views have evolved or have been preserved after the course?
  • Identify New Strengths: Consider what new strength you will bring with you due to your coursework and your communications with others.
  • Support with Examples: In your discussion, please use examples from the course or any feedback you may have where applicable.

Example

In my first journal, I emphasized the strengths that include listening and nonverbal communication. Looking at the whole course in general, all these strengths have only strengthened throughout the course. Formal interactions with peers and feedback discussions have made it more critical to assess knowledge rather than react.

After completing your course assignments and activities, do you feel like you have started to address any of your identified areas of opportunity? If so, how? If not, what will you do to address them in the future?

 Evaluating Areas of Opportunity

  • Review Progress: Evaluate the development options that were initially determined for the analyzed areas. Have you achieved a level of advancement in the efforts in these areas during the course?
  • Link to Coursework: Explain the concrete task you have conducted to manage these difficulties
  • Future Plans: If there are some aspects of your life that you believe could be better, explain what you will do to improve your skills in the future.

Example

First, looking at each of them, I could improve on being concise and clear. Throughout the course, detailed practices and comments made during class have enhanced these features, especially in written works, where jargon is kept to a minimum so, not wasting readers’ patience. This persuasive writing assignment helped me develop these skills. To argue my points, I had to make simplified and concise points without extra content that would only dilute my argument.

Based on your more in-depth career exploration in this module, identify a specific career goal and describe the steps you will take to achieve it. (For example, “My goal is to get a job as a social media specialist at an innovative organization. To reach this goal, I will . . .”.)

 Setting Specific Career Goals

  • Define a Career Goal: You should record a career goal you have developed an interest in throughout the course.
  • Plan of Action: Explain further action you will effectively key in to realize this goal, like pursuing higher education, working experience, or internship.
  • Timeline: To increase self-organized pressure, one might set a course to achieve the particular goal within a specific period.

Example

My campaign for breaking into IT companies as a UX writer has been reaffirmed. I have now come to realize that a combination of skill in an academic domain and skill in presenting it in a way that is useful to the average user is valuable in this position. To accomplish this, I will complete a specific class in writing for UX and accrue clerical experience by freelancing (Al et al., 2024).
