In this initial Canvas discussion assignment, you will share your portfolio as a first step in getting to know the other members of the class community: you, your classmates, your instructor, and your Writing Mentor. Understanding that we’re all working toward the same goals of practicing and improving in the habits and processes of writing will strengthen the collaboration and support throughout the class, through feedback, encouragement, and constructive criticism.

The digital portfolio is a social and digital way of communicating. Most of you likely use technology and social media like Facebook or Instagram to communicate with and participate in different communities in the personal, professional, and civic areas of your lives. This discussion will give you an opportunity to build a digital community in this course by sharing your personal digital portfolio and exchanging ideas through the digital discussion space in Canvas.

Step 1: Share Your Digital Portfolio

Copy the link (URL) to your portfolio and paste it in your Canvas discussion post. Make sure to include a clickable hyperlink to an external site. for your readers.

Step 2: Compose a Brief Introduction Post

In your post, respond to the following prompts:.

  • What communities are you a part of (digital or otherwise)? These may be related to where you live, what you study, your hobbies, or your profession.

  • Where are you taking this class from?

  • What technologies or social media sites do you use to connect with your communities?

  • What are your interests or hobbies?

Step 3: Peer Responses
