Post a brief bio of yourself. Tell us why you are taking this class. What are your professional and personal goals? What are your hobbies and interests?
After introducing yourself, you’ll take an in-depth look at your culture. Many times Americans tend to not feel that they have culture, however, everyone has a culture. A simple definition of culture is:
the values, traits, and traditions of a group
However, there are more complicated definitions of culture that look into the various dynamics of culture. For this discussion, students will learn about this more complicated definition and then apply this definition to your own culture.
After having watched the videos from this module, include the following items in the discussion post of your own culture:
- Apply the 7 elements of culture to your own culture (please be sure to watch the video so you are aware of what the 7 elements of culture are).
Please share at your comfort level. If you do not feel comfortable sharing about areas such as social class and religion simply discuss how these elements are present within your culture. For example, in the US social class is determined by income and wealth. - Discuss how your culture impacts your perceptions, behaviors and interpersonal interactions.
- Dr. Verghese discusses how within his culture he learned behaviors without realizing it. Take some time to really think about your culture and discuss something you learned due to being part of your culture.
- Discuss how your culture impacts how you define health and the type of healthcare you use.
- This project does not require you to use outside sources but if you choose to do so please cite them using APA style.
