- Two ways a company can maintain its image while dealing with a talent surplus are to
- Tell workers directly in one face-to-face and not publicly.
- Do not say things that belittle laid-off employees or make them feel like it is their fault for being let go.
- 1 step that I would take as a manager is to comfort remaining employees and explain what happened and why it happened one by one. Surviving a layoff can be a stressful moment for many workers, and it is a good idea to do so. The second step I would take is to explain what is to be moving forward, along with asking the employees what they are working on and what their goals are moving forward one by one. I think it is important for a manager to talk about the future with workers to make them feel like there a good things ahead and lift their confidence.
Introduction to BUS V32 Week 2 Discussion
Welcome to BUS V32 Week 2 Discussion: Managing Talent Surplus and Handling Layoffs! This week, we will focus on managing a talent surplus and handling layoffs in an organisation. These are crucial skills for maintaining organisational stability and employee morale during challenging times. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 2 discussion and assignments, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Suggest TWO ways an organisation can maintain its image while dealing with a talent surplus.
Maintaining Organizational Image During a Talent Surplus
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 2 Discussion: Managing Talent Surplus and Handling Layoffs instructions, I must start by understanding and suggesting two ways through which any organisation can handle a talent surplus.
- Suggest ways to handle talent surplus with minimal impact on the organisation’s image.
- Provide examples or strategies that align with best practices.
Example
To maintain the organisation’s image during a talent surplus, it is crucial to implement strategies that prioritise transparency and employee support. First, offering voluntary separation programs such as early retirement or voluntary leave without pay can help reduce the workforce without the negative impact of forced layoffs. These programs give employees a sense of control and choice, which can preserve morale and organisational reputation. Second, investing in employee retraining and redeployment within the company can demonstrate a commitment to employee development and minimise the perception of instability. By providing opportunities for skill enhancement and internal transfers, the organisation can retain valuable talent and maintain a positive public image.
If layoffs are necessary, what two actions would you take as a manager to ensure that survivors remain committed and productive?
Actions to Ensure Survivor Commitment and Productivity After Layoffs
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 2 Discussion: Managing Talent Surplus and Handling Layoffs instructions, I will discuss what actions I would take to maintain employee morale and productivity.
- Outline specific actions to maintain morale and productivity among remaining employees.
- Justify why these actions are effective based on HRM principles.
Example
When layoffs are unavoidable, clear communication and support systems are essential to keep the remaining employees committed and productive. Firstly, it is important to communicate transparently about the reasons for the layoffs and the future direction of the company. This helps survivors understand the necessity of the layoffs and reduces uncertainty. Additionally, offering counselling services, career development resources, and open forums for employees to voice their concerns can provide much-needed support during the transition. Involving remaining employees in decision-making processes can also make them feel valued and secure their commitment to the company’s goals. This participatory approach fosters a sense of ownership and helps maintain productivity and morale.
Please reply to at least TWO other students to earn full credit.
Responding to Peers
Responding to peers is one of the vital parts of BUS V32 Week 2 Discussion: Managing Talent Surplus and Handling Layoffs. We need to respond to at least two other learners’ posts. I will provide an example post. You can write your peer responses by keeping the following points in mind.
- Read at least two of your peers’ posts and provide a meaningful response.
- Offer additional insights, ask questions, or suggest alternative perspectives.
- Ensure your response is respectful, constructive, and supported by relevant sources where appropriate.
Example
Response 1
Hi Marie, your suggestion to implement voluntary separation programs during a talent surplus is excellent. It offers a humane approach to workforce reduction and helps maintain morale. Have you seen any organisations successfully implement such programs? Great job!
Response 2
Hello Alex, I agree with your emphasis on clear communication and support systems post-layoffs. Providing employees with a transparent rationale for layoffs can indeed reduce anxiety and foster trust. Do you think these strategies would be effective in all industries? Excellent insights!

BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta
Instructions for BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta
COMPLETE Ch. 2 Assignment
- Due Sep 23, 2023 by 11:59 pm
- Points 35
- Submitting a text entry box
- Available until Sep 27, 2023, at 11:59 pm
This assignment was locked Sep 27, 2023, at 11:59 pm.
Chapter 2 Assignment: Saving Metaverse and Sinking Meta
In Chapter 2 we discussed the role human resources plays in strategic planning. The human resources manager works with the organization to define the organizational strategy and allocate resources toward the achievement of organizational goals. The text describes human resource planning as “Analyzes and identifies the need for, and availability of, people so that the organization can meet its strategic objectives. The process ensures the right number of people with the right capabilities at the right times and in the right places”.
In this case study ,we explore where this planning process broke down at Meta (formerly Facebook). The company’s troubled Metaverse division was in trouble, and Meta’s handling of it resulted in mass layoffs in 2023 rather than a slow and steady decline of the troubled division’s employees. You will watch three videos describing the Metaverse business demise, the CEO’s response to laid-off workers, and the employees’ social media response. In the assignment questions below, you will work through several strategic planning steps to identify when things went off course at Meta and provide examples of how Meta may have avoided mass layoffs. Be sure to watch ALL the videos prior to composing your responses!
Using only Chapter 2 content and the three videos above, respond to the following questions:
- Early in chapter 2, the values of a strategic analysis are discussed. The lifecycle stage of the organization is a part of the analysis, as seen in Table 2.2 (page 53 or slide 11). Using the criteria in Table 2.2, 1. identify which lifecycle stage Meta is in, 2. provide 3 examples from the videos that support your choice. Response must be a minimum of four sentences.
2 . From an HR Manager perspective, 1. develop a SWOT analysis of the Metaverse division ONLY of Meta by identifying one key strength, one key weakness, one key opportunity, and one key threat specific to the Metaverse ONLY (not Meta as an entire company) and based on Zuck Bet His Whole Fortune on the Metaverse. Now, Meta is failing video. Response must be a minimum of four sentences.
- Figure 2-5 in the text and slides 25-29 review the Human Resources Planning Process, which includes Review the Environmental Analysis and Strategic Plans, Assess External and Internal Workforce, Compile the HR Planning Forecast, and Develop the HR Staffing Plans and Actions. Based on the Metaverse division ONLY, 1. Identify one area that was missed in EACH of the four steps of the HR Planning Process that led to the mass layoffs, and support it with an example from the video. Response must be a minimum of four sentences.
- Using content from your responses to the first three questions, 1 identify three examples of how Meta could have adjusted its strategic planning with HR and potentially avoided mass layoffs. Response must be a minimum of four sentences.
Precap from Week 2 Discussion
In week 2 discussion, we introduced ourselves and began building a community by sharing our backgrounds, experiences, and interests. This foundational step sets the stage for engaging discussions and collaboration throughout the course.
Introduction to BUS.V32.70564 Week 2 Assignment
Welcome to BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta! This week, we will explore strategic analysis and HR planning processes using Meta’s Metaverse division as a case study. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 2 assignment, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Identify which lifecycle stage Meta is in. 2. Provide 3 examples from the videos that support your choice.
Identify Meta’s Lifecycle Stage
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta instructions, I will now discuss the lifecycle stage of Meta and provide examples to support my response.
- Determine which lifecycle stage Meta is in using Table 2.2.
- Provide three examples from the videos to support your choice.
Example
Meta is in the Maturity stage of its lifecycle. This stage is characterized by a focus on maintaining market share and improving efficiency. One example from the videos is Meta’s substantial investment in the Metaverse, indicating a shift towards innovation within a stable market. Another example is the intense competition Meta faces from other tech giants, requiring strategic differentiation. Lastly, the videos highlight Meta’s emphasis on optimizing resources, which is typical of a company in the maturity stage.
Develop a SWOT analysis of the Metaverse division ONLY of Meta by identifying one key strength, one key weakness, one key opportunity, and one key threat specific to the Metaverse Only.
Develop a SWOT Analysis
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta instructions, I will develop a SWOT analysis of Meta and identify its strengths, weaknesses, and threats.
- Identify one key strength, one key weakness, one key opportunity, and one key threat for the Metaverse division.
- Base your analysis on the “Zuck Bet His Whole Fortune on the Metaverse. Now, Meta is Failing” video.
Example
For the Metaverse division, a key strength is Meta’s strong financial backing, enabling extensive research and development. A key weakness is the public’s skepticism about the Metaverse’s practicality and value. An opportunity lies in the growing interest in virtual and augmented reality technologies. However, a significant threat is the rapid pace of technological advancements, which could render Meta’s investments obsolete if competitors innovate faster.
Identify one area that was missed in EACH of the four steps of the HR Planning Process that led to the mass layoffs, and support it with an example from the video.
Analyze the HR Planning Process
Then, in the BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta instructions, I will identify an area that was skipped in each of the four steps of HR planning that led to mass layoffs.
- Identify one area missed in each of the four HR planning steps that led to mass layoffs.
- Support your analysis with examples from the video.
Example
One missed area in reviewing the environmental analysis and strategic plans was underestimating the market’s readiness for the Metaverse, leading to overinvestment. In assessing the external and internal workforce, there was a lack of alignment between employee skills and the new technological demands. The HR planning forecast did not account for potential market resistance, leading to overly optimistic projections. Finally, in developing HR staffing plans, there was insufficient contingency planning for scaling back if the Metaverse did not gain expected traction.
Identify three examples of how Meta could have adjusted its strategic planning with HR and potentially avoided mass layoffs.
Suggest Strategic Planning Adjustments
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 2 Assignment: Strategic Analysis and HR Planning at Meta instructions, I will explain three examples suggesting how Meta could have adjusted its strategic planning with HR.
- Identify three examples of how Meta could have adjusted its strategic planning with HR to potentially avoid mass layoffs.
- Use content from your previous responses.
Example
Meta could have adjusted its strategic planning by conducting more comprehensive market research to better gauge the readiness for the Metaverse. Additionally, aligning workforce skills with emerging technologies through targeted training programs could have mitigated some of the mismatch issues. Lastly, implementing a phased investment approach with periodic reviews and adjustments based on market feedback could have helped avoid the need for mass layoffs.

This week, we will focus on creating a more inclusive environment within organizations and addressing specific multicultural concerns as highlighted in the case study “But…It’s Our Company Culture!”. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 3 assignment, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Provide two specific actions you would take as the HR manager to create a more inclusive environment using Chapter 3 content in a minimum of 4 sentences.
Creating an Inclusive Environment
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 3 Assignment: Creating an Inclusive Environment and Addressing Multicultural Concerns instructions, I will now provide two ways HR could use to create a more productive workplace.
- Identify two specific actions to enhance inclusivity.
- Base your actions on Chapter 3 content.
Example
To create a more inclusive environment, I would first implement diversity training programs for all employees, focusing on cultural sensitivity and awareness. This training would help employees understand and respect each other’s differences, fostering a more inclusive workplace. Secondly, I would establish an anonymous reporting system for discrimination and harassment, ensuring that employees feel safe to report any issues without fear of retaliation. This system would encourage accountability and prompt action against any discriminatory behavior.
Select 3 of the six listed items for concern in the case study. For EACH of the THREE items, provide the following:
A. Identify the EEOC or other labor law violated in each of the three items for concern you selected in a minimum of 4 sentences.
B. Discuss ONE specific action you would take as the HR manager to those involved in each of the three situations of concern you selected in a minimum of 4 sentences.
Addressing Items of Concern
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 3 Assignment: Creating an Inclusive Environment and Addressing Multicultural Concerns instructions, I will select three items from the provided case study. After that, I will identify one of the labor law violations and discuss one specific action an HR could take to prevent this.
- Select three items from the case study.
- Identify the EEOC or other labor law violated for each item.
- Discuss one specific action for each situation.
Example
- Sales Team at Strip Club:
- EEOC Violation: This situation likely violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits sex discrimination in the workplace.
- Action: I would address this issue by establishing a clear policy against company-sponsored events at inappropriate venues and providing training on professional conduct.
- Hispanic Worker’s Exit Interview:
- EEOC Violation: This situation may involve discrimination based on national origin, as protected under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
- Action: I would implement a mentorship program to provide clear career advancement paths and ensure equal opportunities for all employees.
- Breastfeeding Mothers:
- EEOC Violation: This situation likely violates the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, which requires reasonable accommodations for breastfeeding mothers.
- Action: I would designate a private, comfortable space for breastfeeding mothers, ensuring they have the necessary support and resources.

The three steps in the recruiting process is
- Job analysis, a review of job responsibilities that helps ensure the right fit between job and the employee
- Job specifications, a list of tasks and duties of a job
- A job description, which identifies skills and abilities need to be successful at a job.
- A position I would recruit for at my job would be a front desk receptionist.
‘A job description I would write would be, “ Must have good customer service skills and know hotel schedules. Also, must be punctual and comfortable using computers
- I think external recruitment is how I would do my advertisement for this job. External recruitment reaches out to more people and even though it also invites more unqualified workers, I think the job I chose is fairly easy to understand. Internal advertising leads to a less diverse workforce.

- Describe each step in your own words.
- Ensure clarity and conciseness.
Example
The first step involves recognising a vacancy and determining the qualifications required for the role. The second step is to advertise the job opening through various channels to attract suitable candidates. The final step involves screening applicants, conducting interviews, and selecting the most qualified candidate for the position.
Select ONE position you will recruit for at your organisation* and develop a 2-sentence description of the job requirements.
Job Description
Then, in the BUS V32 Week 4 Discussion: Recruitment Process and Job Advertisement instructions, I will start by selecting any job position, and then I will describe the job requirements in 1-2 words.
- First, select a position that you will recruit for at your organisation
- Write a 2-sentence description of the job requirements.
- Follow the criteria from Chapter 4, slides 18 & 22.
Example
“We are seeking a dynamic Academic Counselor to join Ventura College. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in counseling and at least two years of experience in academic advising.”
For the position you selected in part 1, determine if Internal or External recruiting is best for your job and organisation, and explain WHY.
Internal vs. External Recruiting
Finally, in the BUS V32 Week 4 Discussion: Recruitment Process and Job Advertisement instructions, I will analyse the selected position and then discuss whether internal or external recruiting criteria are suitable for it.
- Determine the best recruiting method for the selected job.
- Provide a clear explanation for your choice.
Example
For the Academic Counselor position, external recruiting is best as it allows the organisation to bring in fresh perspectives and expertise from outside the institution. This approach can help in finding candidates with specific experience in academic advising that aligns with Ventura College’s needs.
Please reply to at least TWO other students to earn full credit.
Responding to Peers
Responding to peers is one of the vital parts of BUS V32 Week 4 Discussion: Recruitment Process and Job Advertisement.
Example
Response 1
Hi Alisa, your description of the recruitment steps is very clear and concise. I agree that attracting candidates through various channels is crucial for finding the right talent. Great job on your job description as well!
Response 2
Hello Ross, I found your explanation for choosing external recruiting very insightful. Bringing in new perspectives can indeed benefit the organisation. Do you think this approach could also help in creating a more diverse work environment? Excellent work!

The three steps in the recruiting process is
- Job analysis, a review of job responsibilities that helps ensure the right fit between job and the employee
- Job specifications, a list of tasks and duties of a job
- A job description which identifies the skills and abilities needed to be successful at a job.
- A position I would recruit for at my job would be a front desk receptionist.
‘A job description I would write would be, “ Must have good customer service skills and know hotel schedules. Also, must be punctual and comfortable using computers
- I think external recruitment is how I would do my advertisement for this job. External recruitment reaches out to more people, and even though it also invites more unqualified workers, I think the job I chose is fairly easy to understand. Internal advertising leads to a less diverse workforce.

Introduction to BUS V32 Week 4 Assignment
Welcome to BUS V32 Week 4 Assignment: Addressing Disparate Impact in the Selection Process! This week, we will delve into the concept of disparate impact in the selection process and explore methods to ensure fairness and compliance with the Four-Fifths Rule. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 4 assignment, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Provide the calculations for passing scores of the six groups (use the calculation example on page 179 to assist you in the math) and the score for the 1 group that showed the disparate impact.
Calculate Disparate Impact
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 4 Assignment: Addressing Disparate Impact in the Selection Process instructions, I will now provide the calculations for the passing scores of Groups 6 and Group 1 that show disparities.
- Use the data table provided in the case study.
- Apply the Four-Fifths Rule to calculate the possible disparate impact for each group.
- Identify the group that shows disparate impact.
Example
Using the data table, the passing rates for the six groups are calculated as follows:
- Group A: 80%
- Group B: 60%
- Group C: 70%
- Group D: 50%
- Group E: 85%
- Group F: 75%
The group that showed disparate impact is Group D, with a passing rate significantly lower than the others. The Four-Fifths Rule indicates that if the selection rate for any group is less than 80% of the selection rate for the highest group (in this case, Group E at 85%), there is a potential disparate impact.
As the HR manager, explain TWO things you would consider before changing any selection tools based on this data.
Considerations Before Changing Selection Tools
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 4 Assignment: Addressing Disparate Impact in the Selection Process instructions, I will explain two things I would consider before changing any selection tool because of this data.
- Identify two things to consider before making changes.
- Base your considerations on the data and chapter content.
Example
Before changing any selection tools, I would first consider the validity and reliability of the current tools. Ensuring that the tools accurately measure the skills and abilities required for the job is crucial. Secondly, I would assess the potential impact of the changes on the overall diversity of the workforce. It’s important to ensure that any new tools do not inadvertently disadvantage another group.
As the HR manager, describe TWO options you would change in the selection process to eliminate disparate impact.
Options to Eliminate Disparate Impact
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 4 Assignment: Addressing Disparate Impact in the Selection Process instructions, I will discuss two options that will help to eradicate disparate impact.
- Describe two changes to the selection process to eliminate disparate impact.
- Support your suggestions with chapter content.
Example
To eliminate disparate impact, I would consider implementing structured interviews that focus on job-related competencies. This reduces the risk of bias and ensures a fair assessment of all candidates. Additionally, I would introduce job simulation tests that provide a realistic preview of job tasks. These tests are generally more valid and reliable than traditional selection methods and can help reduce disparate impact.

- I would include cannabis in my health coverage because some people use it for medical reasons. However, I would make sure my workers are able to complete their tasks and have a doctor's note. I feel like with the legalization of marijuana, more workplaces and becoming more lenient on the matter.
- An impacted area of the organization based on my decision would be to improve in the equity theory. I think by helping in employee with special needs, they can perform better at their job.
- An area affected by cost from my decision would be that my healthcare expenses would go up as the company is paying for benefits other companies wouldn’t pay for.
Oct 11, 2023 12:46 PM
Hi Vanessa, I thought the same thing, but I think with a doctor's note and under some weeks of supervision, depending on the job, I would allow the use of marijuana.
Introduction to BUS V32 Week 5 Discussion
Welcome to BUS V32 Week 5 Discussion: Cannabis in Health Insurance Coverage! This week, we will discuss the inclusion of medical cannabis in company healthcare coverage, focusing on the implications for the organization and the associated costs or savings. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 5 discussion and assignments, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Explain whether you WOULD or would NOT include cannabis in your company’s health coverage and WHY.
Inclusion of Cannabis in Health Coverage
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 5 Discussion: Cannabis in Health Insurance Coverage instructions, I must start by understanding and explaining if I would want to add cannabis to my company.
- State your position on including cannabis in health coverage.
- Provide reasons for your decision, incorporating insights from Chapter 6.
Example
As an HR Manager in California, I would include medical cannabis in our company’s health coverage. Given the legal status of medical cannabis in California and its proven benefits for certain medical conditions, including it in our health plan aligns with supporting employee health and well-being. Additionally, offering comprehensive health benefits can enhance employee satisfaction and retention, making our organization more attractive to potential hires.
Discuss at least ONE additional impact on the organization from your decision.
Impact on the Organization
Then, in the BUS V32 Week 5 Discussion: Cannabis in Health Insurance Coverage instructions, I will explain what impact has been produced on the company because of my decision.
- Discuss how your decision would affect the organization.
- Use Chapter 6 material to support your discussion.
Example
One significant impact of this decision would be the need to establish clear guidelines and policies regarding the use of medical cannabis in the workplace. These policies would ensure that employees understand their rights and responsibilities while using medical cannabis. Additionally, it would be essential to train managers on how to handle situations involving medical cannabis use, ensuring compliance with both company policies and state laws.
Describe at least ONE additional cost or cost savings to the organization from your decision.
Cost or Cost Savings
Finally, in the BUS V32 Week 5 Discussion: Cannabis in Health Insurance Coverage instructions, I will explain how my decision has helped my company financially.
- Describe any additional costs or savings associated with your decision.
- Use Chapter 6 material to explain these financial implications.
Example
Including medical cannabis in our health coverage could result in cost savings by potentially reducing the need for more expensive prescription medications. For instance, if employees use medical cannabis as a cost-effective alternative to managing chronic pain or other conditions, the overall healthcare costs for the organization could decrease. Additionally, improving employee health and reducing absenteeism could lead to increased productivity and lower health-related costs in the long term.
Please reply to at least TWO other students to earn full credit.
Responding to Peers
Responding to peers is one of the vital parts of BUS V32 Week 5 Discussion: Cannabis in Health Insurance Coverage.
Example
Response 1
Hi Melissa, your decision to include medical cannabis in health coverage is well-supported by your reasoning. I agree that providing comprehensive health benefits can improve employee satisfaction and retention. Have you considered any potential challenges in implementing this policy? Great job!
Response 2
Hello, Alia. I found your discussion on the need for clear guidelines and policies very insightful. Establishing these policies is crucial for ensuring compliance and understanding among employees. Do you think additional training for managers could also help in managing these new policies effectively? Excellent insights!

- Following the chart, the percentage of men who passed the test is 84%, while the percentage of women who passed the test is 62%, which means only 74% of people passed the test. This could be considered a disparate impact.
- Two things I would change as an HR manager would be to give multiple tests. By doing that, what applicants may struggle in one particular area, they could make up for it in another test where they may perform well. Also, I would emphasize praise from a recent employer more than a qualifying degree if that employer is trustworthy and believable. A lot of people, a cousin of mine works with, constantly talk about how unprepared and clueless he is, but he only got to. that position because of a degree.
- Two things I would change in the selection process to eliminate disparate impact would be not placing too much emphasis on a personality test. Many people are introverted (myself included,) and that may rub a manager or coworker the wrong way. Even if that person is skilled in their craft. Also I would not emphasize a physical ability test. Men are naturally stronger than women, and valuing that too much can lead to a disparity in hiring or test passing

In the week 5 discussion, we explored disparate impact in the selection process and discussed strategies to ensure fairness and compliance. This week, we will apply our knowledge to develop an effective training program for call center employees.
Introduction to BUS V32 Week 5 Assignment
Welcome to BUS V32 Week 5 Assignment: Designing a Training Program Framework for CSR! This week, we will focus on designing a training program framework to improve customer service in a call center. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 5 assignment, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Identify three strategies and/or sources of information you will use to identify the needs for your call center training program based on the video example.
Identify Strategies for Needs Assessment
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 5 Assignment: Designing a Training Program Framework for CSR instructions, I will identify three strategies that will fulfill the need for a certain training program.
- Use the data table provided in the case study.
- Use Chapter 8 content to identify three strategies or sources of information for needs assessment.
- Base your strategies on the call center video example.
Example
To identify the needs for the call center training program, I would use the following strategies:
- Conduct employee surveys to gather direct feedback on current challenges and training needs.
- Analyze call center performance metrics to identify specific areas where service quality is lacking.
- Review customer feedback and complaint records to understand common issues faced by customers. These strategies will provide a comprehensive understanding of the training needs based on real data and employee input.
Identify three ways to deliver the same training information to assist call center employees with differing learning styles.
Address Different Learning Styles in Training Delivery
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 5 Assignment: Designing a Training Program Framework for CSR Instructions, I will identify three ways to deliver the training to CSRs to accommodate different learning styles.
- Identify three ways to deliver training to accommodate different learning styles.
- Use Chapter 8 content to support your choices.
Example
To accommodate different learning styles, I would implement the following methods:
- Interactive workshops and role-playing sessions to engage kinesthetic learners who benefit from hands-on activities.
- Online training modules with visual aids and videos to support visual learners who prefer seeing information.
- Group discussions and Q&A sessions to help auditory learners who excel in listening and speaking environments. These varied methods ensure all employees can absorb the training material effectively.
Determine the percentage of the call center employee training program that will be internal training versus external training and the reasons for your selected percentages.
Determine the Balance Between Internal and External Training
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 5 Assignment: Designing a Training Program Framework for CSR instructions, I will determine the percentage of CSR employee training programs, displaying internal VS external training.
- Decide the percentage of training that will be internal versus external.
- Justify your selected percentages using Chapter 8 content.
Example
I would allocate 70% of the training to be conducted internally and 30% externally. Internal training allows customization to the specific needs of our call center and fosters a cohesive learning environment. External training, on the other hand, brings in fresh perspectives and industry best practices. This balance ensures a well-rounded training program that leverages both in-house expertise and external innovation.

Understanding these labor laws is crucial for both employees and employers to navigate the complexities of employment relationships. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 7 discussion and assignments, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Use your own words (not copying or cutting & pasting) to describe Employment At Will.
Describe Employment At Will
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 7 Discussion: Employment At Will and Wrongful Discharge instructions, I must start by understanding and describing employment at my own will.
- Provide a clear, concise definition in your own words.
- Highlight the key elements of the policy.
Example
Employment At Will means that an employer can terminate an employee at any time without needing to provide a reason, as long as the termination does not violate any employment contracts or laws. This policy also allows employees to leave their jobs at any time without having to provide a reason or notice.
Use your own words (not copying or cutting & pasting) to describe Wrongful Discharge.
Describe Wrongful Discharge
Then, in the BUS V32 Week 7 Discussion: Employment At Will and Wrongful Discharge instructions, I will explain wrongful discharge.
- Define what constitutes wrongful discharge.
- Explain the circumstances under which it occurs.
Example
Wrongful discharge occurs when an employee is terminated for illegal reasons, such as discrimination, retaliation, or breach of contract. It involves the violation of federal or state laws, employment contracts, or public policies that protect workers’ rights.
Explain how a company can use an Employment At Will policy and still be guilty of Wrongful Discharge.
Employment At Will and Wrongful Discharge
Finally, in the BUS V32 Week 7 Discussion: Employment At Will and Wrongful Discharge instructions, I will explain how a company can still be guilty of wrongful discharge even though it implements an employment-at-will policy.
- Discuss how a company can be guilty of wrongful discharge even under an Employment At Will policy.
- Use examples or hypothetical scenarios to illustrate your points.
Example
A company can still be guilty of wrongful discharge under an Employment At Will policy if the termination violates legal protections or contractual agreements. For example, if an employee is fired in retaliation for reporting unsafe working conditions, this would be considered wrongful discharge despite the employment-at-will policy. Similarly, terminating an employee based on discrimination or harassment would also constitute wrongful discharge.
Please reply to at least TWO other students to earn full credit.

- Available until Nov 1, 2023 at 11:59pm
This assignment was locked Nov 1, 2023 at 11:59pm.
In the second half of Chapter 10, one of the topics we discuss is the grievance process of Union employees. Grievances continue to increase in the workplace, and HR managers must understand the intricacies of union grievances and how they impact the employees and the organization. According to the National Labor Relations Board, during the first six months of 2023, unfair labor practice (ULP) charges filed across the NLRB’s 48 field offices have increased 16% on top of a substantial increase last year. In total, 10,792 cases have been filed with the NLRB’s 48 field offices across the country, up 14% over the same period in Fiscal Year 2022. The full press release can be found here: Unfair Labor Practices Filings Up 16% in 2023Links to an external site.
For the Chapter 10 Assignment, complete the following:
- Do an Internet search for a Union Grievance that was filed in the last 6 months and provide a link to the article. *note: Below is a video showing how to refine a Google search to display only news items.
- In 3-4 sentences explain the employee’s concernsaddressed in the grievance.
- In 3-4 sentences using the information covered in Chapter 10, explain how you would respond to the grievance as an HR manager on behalf of your organization(hint: use Chapter 10, part 2, slides 35-38 as a resource)
For part 1, when beginning a Google search to locate a recent union grievance, change the screen from “All” to “News” at the top of the search results to get accurate results for this assignment (see video below). If you don’t add this filter, your results will be an endless list of paid attorney ads wanting to file a lawsuit on your behalf!
Remember to use your own words and do not plagiarize!

In Chapter 9, we explored common leadership styles, including autocratic, participative, and free-rein. These leadership styles are more or less effective depending on the types of employee teams and the overall environment the organization is facing. In addition to the content covered in the chapter and the recorded lecture, the chart below provides a useful summary of the amount of authority held by the leader versus the employee, and provides examples of when the leadership style is well-suited for the organization’s environment.
For example, one type of leadership style is effective to manage a highly educated scientific research team that develops new cancer treatments, while a different type of management style is effective for first responders who are being deployed on the ground during an emergency. In this discussion post, you will consider the organization’s end goal and determine the most effective leadership style that will allow the employee to achieve the goal.
For this discussion post, watch the short video clips for BOTH examples, and determine which of the three leadership styles (autocratic, participative, or free-rein) is best in each separate environment. Be sure to explain your reasoning for selecting the leadership style in a minimum of 3 sentences for each example.
Example 1: Watch the clip from the film Hidden Figures and determine if the autocratic, participative, or free-rein leadership style would be most effective when working with the newly promoted engineer. Explain why the leadership style you chose will generate the best results from this employee in a minimum of 3 sentences. Consider the type of environment she is in and whether she should, or should not, have autonomous decision-making authority to achieve the organization’s desired result.
Example 2: Watch the clip from the film Forrest Gump and determine if the autocratic, participative, or free-rein leadership style would be most effective when working with the young enlistee. Explain why the leadership style you chose will generate the best results from this new private in a minimum of 3 sentences. Consider the type of environment he is in and whether he should, or should not, have autonomous decision-making authority to achieve the organization’s desired result.

Example 1. I think a participative style best suits that job setting. I reason that she is in an office setting, and to my knowledge, most office jobs use that style. The main benefit is that you have many people thinking in and outside the box, creating more optimal ways of thinking.
Example 2. I think an autocratic style best suits this scenario. Most military-related uses this style, and I think it is important to have at least one authoritative person in the military. If not, I think soldiers would begin to stray away from objectives and lose some discipline.

Understanding these styles is crucial for selecting the most appropriate approach to achieve organizational goals. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 8 discussion and assignments, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Watch the clip from the film Hidden Figures and determine if the autocratic, participative, or free-rein leadership style would be most effective when working with the newly promoted engineer.
Free-Rein Leadership Style
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 8 Discussion: Leadership Styles and Their Effectiveness instructions, I must start by watching the provided clip and determining which leadership style would be better for a newly promoted engineer.
- Watch the provided clip.
- Determine whether autocratic, participative, or free-rein leadership is most effective.
- Explain your reasoning in at least three sentences.
Example
In the Hidden Figures clip, the participative leadership style would be most effective when working with the newly promoted engineer. Given her high level of expertise and the collaborative environment, allowing her to have input in decision-making processes would leverage her knowledge and boost morale. This approach fosters innovation and ensures that her contributions are valued, leading to better outcomes for the team.
Watch the clip from the film Forrest Gump and determine if the autocratic, participative, or free-rein leadership style would be most effective when working with the young enlistee.
Forrest Gump Example
Then, in the BUS V32 Week 8 Discussion: Leadership Styles and Their Effectiveness instructions, I will watch the second clip from the movie Forest Gump and determine which leadership style would be better for a newly joined employee.
- Watch the provided clip.
- Determine whether autocratic, participative, or free-rein leadership is most effective.
- Explain your reasoning in at least three sentences.
Example
In the Forrest Gump clip, the autocratic leadership style is most suitable for the young enlistee. - Formulate specific questions to understand the union’s intentions and benefits.
- Ensure the questions are relevant and seek detailed information.
Example
When approached by a coworker with a union letter, I would ask, “What specific benefits will the union provide that we do not currently have?” This question aims to understand the tangible improvements the union promises. Additionally, I would ask, “How will union dues be utilized, and what is the financial impact on employees?” This helps to evaluate the cost-benefit ratio of joining the union.
Describe the steps in the unionisation process and what will happen next in the workplace based on the information discussed in the text.

Then, in the BUS V32 Week 10 Discussion: Working with Labor Unions instructions, I will analyze the provided information and then explain the steps involved in unionization.
- Outline the key steps in the unionisation process.
- Use terms and content from the textbook and lecture materials.
Example
After employees sign authorization cards, the next step involves filing a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to hold a union election. The NLRB will then investigate to ensure there is sufficient interest and that the process is conducted fairly. If the NLRB approves, an election is held where employees vote to decide whether or not to unionize. If the majority votes in favor, the union is certified, and collective bargaining can begin.

V32 Chapter 12 Assignment
In Chapter 12, we explore labor unions in the workplace. There are many facets to labor unions, and, ideally, the organization and the union can collaborate to maintain a strong bottom line and a satisfied labor force. However, the world never stands still, and the evolution of business and consumer trends creates scenarios not always in the organization’s or the union’s control. At the start of this week’s module, you watched a video explaining how the shift in entertainment from traditional network production to the streaming model was a major impetus for the recent writers’ strike (if you skipped the video, now is the time to go back and watch all of it).
For this assignment, you will explore the details of WGA contract negotiations. Watch the two videos below, and then answer the four assignment questions that follow. To earn full credit, incorporate chapter 12 content and provide sufficient detail to meet the sentence requirement for each question.
Answer the four assignment questions below. To earn full credit, incorporate chapter 12 content and provide sufficient detail to meet the sentence requirement for each question.

- The WGA utilized an economic strike. I think the strike was effective due to the fact that they were able to win a wage increase. I also think the strike was effective because it showed the company that they were willing to fight for what they deserved.
- The WGA demanded that they would get a guaranteed amount of pay that would allow them to live comfortably. Even though they did get an increase, it still was not enough. They also wanted residuals. If a show did well, they wanted to be rewarded for that as well.
- The WGA contract included that they would receive a 5% increase on AI protections, streaming bonuses, and transparency, meaning writers would be able to monitor how well a show was doing. They also received an increase in healthcare.
Precap from Week 10 Discussion
In the week 10 discussion, we explored workplace bullying and discussed strategies for managing such incidents effectively. This week, we will delve into labor union dynamics and examine a real-world case involving the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
Introduction to BUS V32 Week 10 Assignment
Welcome to BUS V32 Week 10 Assignment: Exploring Labor Unions and Contract Negotiations! This week, we will focus on labor unions in the workplace and the complexities of contract negotiations. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 10 assignment, ensuring you address all necessary components thoroughly.
Describe the type(s) of strategies the WGA utilized from slides 41-42. In your opinion, was the strategy effective in resolving the contract dispute?
Describe the Strategies Used by the WGA
As mentioned in the BUS V32 Week 10 Assignment: Exploring Labor Unions and Contract Negotiations instructions, I will describe the strategies WGA used and explain their effectiveness.
- Identify the strategies utilized by the WGA from slides 41-42.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies in resolving the contract dispute.
- Provide a minimum of 3 sentences.
Example
The WGA utilized a combination of negotiation tactics and public pressure strategies, including organizing rallies and leveraging social media to garner public support. These strategies aimed to highlight the unfair practices faced by writers and create a unified front against the studios. The effectiveness of these strategies can be seen in the eventual agreement, which addressed several key concerns raised by the WGA.
Based on the above videos, describe two WGA demands that were unmet and contributed to the strike.
Discuss Two Unmet WGA Demands
Next, in the BUS V32 Week 10 Assignment: Exploring Labor Unions and Contract Negotiations instructions, I will explain two WGA demands that were not fulfilled and resulted in a strike.
- Identify two WGA demands that were unmet and contributed to the strike.
- Use the videos and slides 28, 33, and 34 as references.
- Provide a minimum of 4 sentences.
Example
Two significant demands of the WGA that were initially unmet included higher residuals for streaming content and protections against the use of artificial intelligence in writing. The demand for higher residuals was based on the growing revenue from streaming platforms, which the writers felt should be reflected in their compensation. Additionally, the WGA sought assurances that AI would not replace human writers, ensuring job security in an evolving industry.
Based on the above videos, describe two AMPTP demands that were unmet and contributed to the strike.
Discuss Two Unmet AMPTP Demands
Then, in the BUS V32 Week 10 Assignment: Exploring Labor Unions and Contract Negotiations instructions, I will explain two AMPTP demands that were not fulfilled and resulted in a strike.
- Identify two AMPTP demands that were unmet and contributed to the strike.
- Use the videos and slides 28, 32, and 33 as references.
- Provide a minimum of 4 sentences.
Example
The AMPTP had demands related to maintaining flexibility in hiring practices and keeping production costs low. One unmet demand was the ability to hire non-union writers for specific projects to reduce costs. Another demand was to limit the financial commitments towards health and pension benefits, which the studios argued were unsustainable given the current economic climate. These unmet demands contributed to the prolonged strike.
Based on your responses to questions 2 and 3 above, describe the compromises or agreements that were reached in the WGA and AMPTP demands that led to contract ratification. Describe the demands that were unmet in this contract negotiation, if any.
Describe the Compromises or Agreements
Finally, in the BUS V32 Week 10 Assignment: Exploring Labor Unions and Contract Negotiations instructions, I will analyze the previous research and explain what agreements or compromises were made in WGA and AMPTP demands.
- Discuss the compromises or agreements that led to contract ratification.
- Identify any unmet demands in this contract negotiation.
- Provide a minimum of 4 sentences.
Example
The final agreement included compromises such as a moderate increase in residuals for streaming content and a commitment to further discussions on the impact of AI. While the WGA did not secure all its demands, it achieved significant progress in addressing its primary concerns. The AMPTP agreed to maintain union hiring practices but secured some flexibility in other areas. However, certain demands related to long-term financial commitments remained unresolved, indicating areas for future negotiations.

Understanding and adhering to ethical standards is paramount for conducting credible and responsible research. This Owlisdom How-To guide will help you navigate the Week 3 discussion and assignments, ensuring you address all necessary components thoughtfully and thoroughly.
Why are ethical considerations so important in research?
Importance of Ethical Considerations in Research
As mentioned in the Critical Thinking and Digital Literacy BUSN 1001 Week 3 Discussion: Ethical Considerations in Research instructions, I will start this by analyzing our previous research and then discuss why ethical considerations is an important parameter to consider while conducting research.
- Define ethical considerations in research.
- Discuss why maintaining integrity and credibility is crucial.
- Highlight the protection of participants’ rights and well-being.
- Explain how ethical guidelines prevent misconduct.
Example
Ethical considerations are fundamental in research to ensure the integrity and credibility of findings. They protect the rights and well-being of participants, ensuring that no harm comes to individuals involved in the study. Adhering to ethical guidelines helps prevent misconduct, such as falsifying data or plagiarizing work, thereby promoting transparency and honesty in the research process. Furthermore, following ethical standards fosters public trust in research findings, making it more likely that the results will be accepted and utilised by the broader community.
For instance, informed consent is a critical ethical requirement, ensuring that participants are fully aware of the nature of the research and any potential risks involved. This respect for participants’ autonomy is essential for maintaining ethical integrity. Additionally, ensuring confidentiality and privacy protects participants from potential harm or repercussions that could arise from the disclosure of personal information.
How is paid research, as opposed to unpaid research, viewed? Why is there a difference?
Paid vs. Unpaid Research
Then, in the next section of BUSN 1001 Week 3 Discussion: Ethical Considerations in Research, I will discuss the difference between paid and unpaid research and explain why such a difference exists.
- Define paid research and unpaid research.
- Discuss perceptions of bias in paid research.
- Explain the reasons behind different views on paid and unpaid research.
- Suggest ways to ensure transparency in funded research.
Example
Paid research is often viewed with scepticism due to the potential for financial incentives to influence outcomes. There is a perception that paid researchers may consciously or unconsciously produce results that favour their sponsors, undermining the impartiality of the research. In contrast, unpaid research is frequently seen as driven by a genuine desire for knowledge and scientific curiosity, making it appear more impartial and trustworthy.
The difference in perception arises because financial incentives can create conflicts of interest. For example, a pharmaceutical company funding a study on its own drug may have a vested interest in positive outcomes. To mitigate these concerns, it is essential to ensure transparency by disclosing funding sources and potential conflicts of interest. Additionally, independent peer review and replication of studies are critical in maintaining the credibility of research findings.
Can people be objective if they are paid to conduct research?
Objectivity in Paid Research
Finally, in the BUSN 1001 Week 3 Discussion: Ethical Considerations in Research, I will explain whether people who are paid to conduct research are more objective.
- Define objectivity in research.
- Discuss how ethical guidelines can help maintain objectivity.
- Explain the importance of disclosing conflicts of interest.
- Highlight the role of peer review and replication in ensuring objectivity.
Example
Maintaining objectivity in paid research is possible if researchers adhere to strict ethical guidelines. Disclosing conflicts of interest is crucial for ensuring transparency and allowing others to evaluate potential biases. Ethical training and institutional oversight play significant roles in upholding the integrity of the research process. Peer review and the replication of studies by independent researchers help safeguard against biases and validate findings.
For instance, if a researcher receives funding from a company to conduct a study, they must disclose this relationship in their publication. Ethical guidelines require that the methodology and results be scrutinised by independent reviewers to ensure that the findings are not unduly influenced by the funding source. This process helps maintain the objectivity and credibility of the research despite the presence of financial incentives.
Have you seen any ethical issues in your life or place of business?
Ethical Issues in Personal or Professional Life
Finally, in the course BUSN 1001 Week 3 Discussion: Ethical Considerations in Research, I will provide examples from my personal or professional life about ethical issues.
- Reflect on any ethical issues you have encountered.
- Describe the impact of these issues on the organisation and stakeholders.
- Discuss the importance of ethical leadership in addressing issues.
- Share steps taken to resolve or mitigate ethical concerns.
Example
In my professional life, I have observed ethical issues related to conflicts of interest and data manipulation. For example, in one instance, a colleague was pressured by management to alter research findings to present a more favourable outcome for a project. This manipulation of data not only compromised the integrity of the research but also posed potential risks to stakeholders relying on accurate information for decision-making.
Addressing these ethical concerns requires a firm commitment to ethical leadership and a transparent organisational culture. Reporting the issue to higher management and implementing stricter oversight measures helped mitigate the risk of future occurrences. It highlighted the importance of fostering an environment where ethical practices are valued and upheld, ensuring that research and business operations maintain their integrity.
